Question by SheBee: How do i confront my alcoholic mother?
2 years ago my dad left my mom for another man. Ever since then (and some time before the divorce) my mother started drinking heavily and taking pills.

She tries to hide it. She will open a can of beer while coughing.

She works as a child minder, and have 4 small children she takes care of every day.
She drinks while they are there.

She hides all the bottles and cans in these large toy boxes on top of a shelve, in the room where the 4 children play.
One day, my mother asked me to go buy 3 bottles of red wine because guests would be coming that night. I got them for her, but the guests only drank one bottle, but the next day, all 3 of them were empty.

She tends to lie a lot about many things that isnt true. And everyone believes her. This resulted in the rest of my family, to think i also take pills to get high, which I dont! And that i also am anorectic, which im not either! (and even though people thinks i have these problems, no one has tried to “help” me) Ive tried to talk to my mothers sister (whom I were very close to before the divorce) but she just starts talking about her work , as if she wont realize the problem. Im very alienated, and often feel alone because my family dont call me or invites me over. I know its because of all the stories.
I only have my boyfriend and his family, which takes great care of me!

I hardly ever speak to my mother, even though we live together in the same house. Im afraid she’ll make fake stories about something i said. I just nod and say yes and no when she talks to me.

Ive tried to confront her before. I told her I loved her and couldnt bare to see her that way. I asked her to go to her doctor and get help, and promised her i would be there for her. But she refused.

I dont know what to do anymore.

So she’s drinking while she’s taking care of 4 small children? That’s DISGUSTING, I want to forward this to CPS and turn her in. Flip side, if my husband left me for another man, I’d probably be drinking, popping pills too. Seriously, she needs to STOP before she accidentally hurt those kids and/or herself. As for you: try to communicate w/ her better. Speak your mind.
