How does an alcohol rehab help?

Alcoholics are persons who are out of control and have given up on hope and progress. They simply lay back, pleased to drink and fall towards destruction. Their minds are underneath the total control of alcohol.  Alcoholism rehabs in Oklahoma function to get these alcoholics to give up totally on drinking or at least to be in control of their drinking so that it does not harm them or their family members.

There are two kinds of treatments given in these rehab centers namely inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatients stay in a rehab center and lead the lifestyle prescribed by doctors and practitioners, while outpatients only come to the center for guidance, advice and medical help. Generally, inpatients are those who are severely addicted to alcohol and cannot be cured by simple advices. Life at a rehab is a complete change, where patients are given spiritual, medical, psychological and emotional help to combat their addiction. The particulars of a case determine the kind of treatment given.

One-on-one counseling and other techniques

The most common type of treatment given in rehab centers is personal counseling. A counselor is assigned to every patient, who tries to identify the cause of addiction, and helps the patient to understand the reasons behind his nature. The frequency of counseling sessions depends on the complicacy of a case, also on the improvement level of the patient. There are other techniques deployed like classroom teaching, spiritual classes and small group discussions. Most centers work on the concept of bringing the ill effects of alcohol into light. Patients are often given spiritual healing to bring them close divineness and to bring new beliefs and faith in the power of righteousness.

Had to retire early

Met this gentleman at the acupuncture clinic this afternoon. He’s there for his hands.

"It’s my work," he told me. "I was in automobile body repair, always using my hands, banging them up. I had to quit working. Got carpal tunnel, couldn’t use my hands no more. Started doing auto body work when I was a kid. My grandfather taught me. He was Native American, all my people are Native. We moved here forty years ago when the shipyards was hiring. But that wasn’t my real work. My real work always was advocacy for Native people. Started an alcohol recovery clinic right after I moved to Portland, and later my son, my daughter, my grandson, even my great-grandkid used it. Glad it was there for them. That was my real work. I still do that work. You ought to see me in my headdress. Everybody likes to take pictures of that. We got a special school going right now, about to graduate sixteen kids. They never would have finished high school nowhere else. That’s my real work. But I can’t use my hands no more. Used ’em up, I guess."

Sorry for the terrible quality. Dark clinic waiting room, only had my pocket camera. Here’s a moment when I wished for the Nikon. But then again, if I’d hauled out that big brick of a computer-on-a-rope, it would have changed the whole energy in the waiting room. The pocket camera is discreet. Quiet. Doesn’t call attention to itself.

This is something most people know about so why would an addict not seek alcohol rehabilitation? Often, it is because addicts are afraid of facing their life and the problems in it without the alcohol to numb them and because they are afraid to go through a painful withdrawal from alcohol.

Steps in Alcohol Rehabilitation

Alcohol rehabilitation is the method that is used to help people who are addicted to alcohol overcome their addiction and live a healthy life. Alcohol rehabilitation facilities have medical experts on staff who help addicts go through detox safely. Detox can take different amounts of time for different people. Detox can cause nausea, diarrhea, sweating, chills, irritability, and depression. While the detox process is not easy at all, it is a necessary step on the path to beating alcohol addiction and getting control of life back.

After the detox is over, the next step in alcohol rehabilitation is to figure out what caused the person to become an alcoholic. Alcohol addiction can begin when people are young if they are in peer pressure situations or it can be the result of trauma and stress that overwhelm the patient and cause a great deal of stress. The goal of alcohol rehabilitation is to teach people how to get through life without alcohol even when it is hard to do so.

After an alcohol rehabilitation program is completed, the patient has to go out into the real world where he can work on living a productive life, developing responsible behavior, and being a good person.

Alcohol addictions have affected enough people and enough families already. That is why alcohol rehabilitation is something that people need to consider.

You will find a lot of options if you search online. There are inpatient programs, outpatient programs, short- or long-term programs, programs using therapy, or programs using medications. It is important to find out as much as you can about any alcohol rehabilitation program you are considering.

Choosing a facility is a very important decision. Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as it takes to find out which is the best alcohol rehabilitation program for you or someone you love. Don’t waste any time finding alcohol rehabilitation programs to treat the problem because every day you wait is a day lost.
