Question by worry wart: my daughter is an addict and was caught with sleeping pills.relapse?could she have mixed them with something?
im just wondering if it is commom for addicts to mix sleeping pills with houshold products and make something else. she likes downers and i found 70% alcohol out on the counter on the same day. we also have lots in the garage and she mysteriously cleaned out the garage that day. if she takes sleeping pills and she is currently in recovery is that a technical relaps? please help
the specific stuff i found in her room was diphenhydramine HCI 25 mg. and the alcohol i found was 70% rubbing alcohol??? would she really drink that over regular drinking alcohol? really she has never been interested by alcohol but things could change i suppose. im very concerned about the sleep aid. what could she be doing with that. she has never had a problem sleeping that i knew of.
my saughter is in recovery currently. she goes to 5 or 6 meetings a week and i have no idea where she got those pills. i recently removed anything and everything that i thought couldbe questionable for use but the stuff she had didnt match any of mine. and the alcohol was rubbing alcohol. she is 23 and on her way to treatment in jan. by choice. im just trying to stay on top of things and not be ignorant or enabling. but i have to know whats what first before can go to her with facts right.?

Household products and drugs can be combined to make a myriad of things, like meth and crack. You didn’t say specifically what she was mixing with the pills so I can’t really give you a good idea of what she was up to. The liquor was probably just a chaser for the pills, it gives a better “high”.
Yes, she has relapsed. You need to confront her and notify her counselors and probation officer (if she has one) if you really want to get her help. Maybe you can get her into a live in treatment center.
Good luck to you, I can’t begin to imagine how much this hurts you.
EDIT: I’m still not sure what she’s doing exactly, but she can’t drink rubbing alcohol. Isopropyl breaks down into Acetone in your body so it’s essentially like drinking fingernail polish remover which is poisonous. The poster who said keep on an eye on your cough syrup made a very good call as well.
